OUR STORY
From its inception in 1999 by founder Peter F. Ullrich, Genviv (formerly Esmeralda Breeding) is devoted to creating, developing and researching the cultivation of ornamental cut flowers.
Over time, Genviv has built a portfolio of more than 100 commercial varieties. Many of these have become recognized across the global market, valued not only for their performance, but for their distinct presence and relevance in design.
Rooted in Ecuador, Genviv’s laboratory and experimental spaces mark the origin of every variety. Within these environments, ideas are carefully explored, tested, and refined—driven by a commitment to environmental and corporate sustainability, advanced production practices, and deep technical expertise. The result is a standard of excellence recognized worldwide for its consistency, quality, and service.
In February 2022, Esmeralda Farms acquired Genviv’s operations in Ecuador and the United States. This marked a natural continuation of Genviv’s path, bringing together shared expertise and a deeper foundation for growth. Together with its parent company, Sunshine Bouquet, the focus remains the same: to move the floral industry forward through thoughtful development, strong genetics, and a lasting commitment to innovation.

Advanced development
Innovation in harmony with nature is the secret to our success. We obtain crosses using conventional techniques, and selected varieties undergo trials (in global test sites) in both soil and hydroponic cultivation.
INTELLECTUAL PROPERTY
Once in their commercial phase but prior to market launch, Genviv varieties are protected by patents, trademarks and plant breeders’ rights at an international level.
REACH
Genviv’s presence extends across key growing regions worldwide, with laboratory and trial sites located in Ecuador, Colombia, Mexico, Africa, Europe, and Asia. This global network allows each variety to be observed under diverse conditions, ensuring adaptability across markets and environments.
Each year, thousands of controlled crosses are developed and evaluated through a rigorous, multi-stage selection process. Only those that demonstrate strong performance across a range of climates and conditions are introduced to growers.
Through our portfolio of patented genetics, Genviv collaborates with producers around the world, offering access to varieties selected for their consistency, resilience, and overall performance from field to final use.
